What is counselling?
Counselling is a type of talking therapy or psychological therapy. It involves talking to a counsellor about your problems. Counsellors are trained to listen empathically and can help you deal with any negative thoughts and feelings.
Talking therapies or psychological therapies, such as counselling, can help you deal with a range of issues, from everyday worries to more serious, long-term psychological problems.
Counselling can help you come to terms with distressing or traumatic events, such as the loss of a loved one, divorce or confusion about your identity or sexual orientation. It can also be an effective way of dealing with long-term mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety.
What can I expect?
Counselling involves talking to a trained counsellor in confidence about how you feel about yourself and your situation. The counsellor will listen and help you understand your problem. We will also work with you to find ways to deal with the problem better.
How long does it take?
Counselling can be just a few sessions and sometimes even one session may be enough. It may continue over several weeks or months, it's entirely up to you and we can discuss this in your initial appointment, we will also review this throughout our work together.
How long is a session?
Sessions will usually last fifty minutes to one hour. This can be adapted to your needs and we can discuss this at our initial meeting.
How much does it cost?
Sessions are usually £50 per session for individuals or £75 for couples, this can depend on your income and can be discussed at our initial meeting. Concessions are available on request.
Who will know?
This is a confidential process and only the people you tell will know you are attending for counselling. There is no entry made on your medical records.
